Key Findings
Role:
The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) one of the UK’s leading marine environmental charity dedicated to protecting and restoring the health of the ocean, seas, shores, and marine wildlife. Founded in 1983, MCS works across the United Kingdom, including England, Scotland, and Wales, bringing together communities, scientists, businesses, and policymakers to drive change for cleaner, healthier seas where wildlife thrives and people benefit. Their work combines science, advocacy, education, and public engagement to influence decisions that affect the marine environment
Responsibilities:
MCS is responsible for campaigning on key marine issues including pollution reduction (such as marine litter and chemical contaminants), plastic reduction, sustainable fisheries, protection of marine habitats, and improving water quality. The organisation leads national programmes that engage volunteers and communities in beach cleans and citizen science, develops evidence-based guidance (such as seafood sustainability advice), and lobbies governments and industry to adopt policies that support ocean recovery. Its work also includes providing educational resources, supporting scientific research, and communicating findings and policy recommendations to the public.
