Understanding the Coast

In 2009, the East Grampian Coastal Partnership (EGCP) published the 'State of the East Grampian Coast Report'. The aim of this report was to aid the reader in understanding the nature of the coast between Kinnaird Head and the mouth of the North Esk, south of St Cyrus. It was based on the three pillars of sustainability -  Social, Economic and Environmental, and developed a series of indicators.

The EGCP State of The Coast (SOTC) project seeks to update the original Report by moving the Report to a web-based platform to ensure that in future the State of the Coast Report is an evolving, web-based document, with a clear timetable for updating information as new data and information becomes available.

This SOTC website uses the indicators used for the 2009 report and updates them via the work done on the Shetland and Clyde Marine Region Strategic Assessments.

Each section has an introductory report of between one and three pages providing broad trends and key issues. These are supported by information sheets which include key findings, important maps, tables and graphs, and links for further and more detailed information.

The new State of the Coast website covers the North East of Scotland Marine Region as shown below. This has a slightly different boundary to the west of Fraserburgh. The southern boundary remains the same.

Who is SOTC aimed at?

Anyone with a professional or personal interest in the coast.
