Integration with Marine Planning

Key Findings

The Fourth Land Use Strategy 2026–2031 becomes relevant here because it expressly recognises that land and terrestrial waters affect the marine environment and that natural capital management needs to be integrated across land and sea. It directly supports the objectives of integrated land use.

The Agriculture and Rural Communities (Scotland) Act 2024 and the emerging sustainable/regenerative agriculture framework like Agriculture Reform Programme (ARP) may also become useful policy tools, because they support climate adaptation, nature restoration, sustainable food production, whole farm approach and key environmental principles such as prevention, repair of environmental damage and polluter pays.
