Mackerel Line Catch Value

Key Findings

  • The East Grampian Coast and the adjacent area of the Moray Firth is the key area in Scotland for line caught mackerel. Aberdeen is also a significant centre.
  • Line caught mackerel is a higher value catch than pelagic caught fish.
  • The handline mackerel season is from May to December and quota is available to vessels under 10m (more information TBA)
