The Aberdeen Branch of the Society for Underwater Technology serves as a regional focal point for professionals, academics, students, and organisations interested in underwater technology, ocean science, subsea engineering and related disciplines. Established in 1993, the branch organises a programme of technical meetings, workshops, courses, social events, and discussion forums tailored to the diverse interests and needs of its members. Through knowledge exchange, networking opportunities, and engagement with local industry and academia, the branch supports the professional growth of its community and promotes innovation and collaboration within the subsea and marine technology sectors.
Responsibilities:
The Aberdeen Branch’s key responsibilities include:
Event Programme Management: Planning and hosting lectures, technical talks, workshops, and networking events that facilitate learning, professional development, and discussion of cutting‑edge topics in underwater technology.
Industry and Academic Liaison: Building and maintaining strong relationships with local universities, research institutions, and companies to support collaboration, outreach, and knowledge transfer.
Supporting Members: Offering opportunities for members to connect, share expertise, and grow careers through committees and specialist groups such as SUT+ (for early‑career professionals).
Special Projects and Education: Delivering training and awareness programmes, such as Subsea Awareness Courses, and participating in educational initiatives and STEM activities.
Promoting Underwater Technology: Encouraging cross‑disciplinary dialogue and dissemination of ideas across industry, government, and academia to advance technology and understanding of underwater environments.
