North East Scotland Biodiversity Partnership (NESBiP)
Key Findings
Role:
The North East Scotland Biodiversity Partnership (NESBiP) is a collaborative, non-profit partnership focused on protecting and promoting biodiversity across north-east Scotland. It was established in response to recommendations from the UK Biodiversity Action Plan and brings together over 40 organisations, including local authorities, environmental bodies, NGOs, community groups and landowners, to develop “joined-up” strategies for conservation, share knowledge, and support local action on biodiversity. NESBiP works to increase awareness, deliver on-the-ground biodiversity projects, empower community involvement, and inspire wider engagement in nature conservation.
Responsibilities:
NESBiP’s core responsibilities include:
Coordination & Collaboration: Bringing together diverse partners (from government, charities, research institutions, and community groups) to maximise shared conservation impact and avoid duplication of effort.
Strategic Planning: Developing action and strategic plans that identify priority species, habitats, and biodiversity threats needing focus in the region.
Supporting Local Projects: Helping communities and partners deliver local biodiversity projects, from wildlife gardening and habitat creation to species monitoring and education.
Awareness & Engagement: Raising public awareness about biodiversity issues and inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved in nature protection.
Facilitating Community Action & Resources: Providing information, resources, guidance, and opportunities for volunteers, landowners, and local organisations to take biodiversity-friendly actions.
