Coastal Communities Network (CCN)

Key Findings

Role:

The Coastal Communities Network (CCN) is a community‑led network of local groups across Scotland that work together to protect, restore, and sustainably manage coastal and marine environments. The network brings together individuals and grassroots organisations who have direct experience of coastal issues, from marine pollution and habitat loss to fisheries impacts, to build collective influence and knowledge sharing. CCN’s vision is for Scotland’s seas to be clean, healthy, and abundant in biodiversity, supporting both nature and local people.

Responsibilities:

CCN exists to strengthen community‑led coastal action by connecting member groups, building capacity for local participation in marine management, and advocating for a community voice in decision‑making processes. It facilitates peer‑to‑peer learning, shares resources and tools between member organisations, and provides strategic support so communities can lead on conservation, monitoring, and policy engagement. Since its launch in 2017 from a partnership between Fauna & Flora International and the Community of Arran Seabed Trust, CCN has evolved into a registered charitable organisation, now independently driving community‑focused marine conservation across Scotland.
