Wildlife Watching Boat Trips

Key Findings

Nature based tourism is a major part of the Scottish Economy, especially in rural areas. In 2010 it was estimated that it was worth £1.4billion and supported 39,000 jobs. In comparison in 2013 golf was valued as contributing  £1.171 billion and supporting 20,000 jobs. It should be noted that in each case the data is not recent and updates would be useful.

Wildlife watching boat trips make up a small proportion of nature based tourism with operators on the west coast dominating. On the East Grampian Coast there are currently two part time operators

Greenhowe Marine Services run weekend trip in the from March to September and daily trips during the school holidays. They operate from Aberdeen Harbour.

Stonehaven Boat Trips & Shellfish operate a variety of wildlife and angling trip from Stonehaven.

At present non of the local wildlife trips have signed up to the WiSe accreditation scheme that recognises training and best practice for boat operators.
