Grants from the Foundation typically range from around £2,000 up to £20,000 per award, however, some larger grants are awarded.

Percentage that can be applied for

There is no fixed percentage of project costs specified by the Foundation; applications are considered on merit and assessed by Trustees relative to needs and the annual funds available.

Who can apply

• Only registered charities and Community Interest Companies (CICs) are eligible to apply for funding.
• The Foundation does not make grants to individuals or highly publicised national appeals.

Aims of the fund

• Support a wide range of charitable activities including arts and culture, education, medical and health sectors, environmental projects, and the care and support of young people, the elderly, people with disabilities and the under-privileged.
• The Trustees pay particular regard to applications from parts of Scotland where local fundraising is difficult, indicating a focus on community need and disadvantaged areas.

Timing

• The Trustees generally meet quarterly, in March, June, September, and December, to review applications.
• Application deadlines are typically in the month preceding each meeting

Examples of successful projects

• Paisley Museum received a significant £200,000 pledge toward its transformation, one of the Foundation’s larger awards in support of cultural heritage.
• In 2024, the largest grants paid during the year were to the Ayrshire Hospice (£100,000) and the The Lighthouse Support Centre (£100,000).
• Smaller project awards are not routinely published centrally but include many local charity and community initiatives across Scotland in the sectors listed above.
