Quayside Area
Key Findings
The East Grampian coast has three major harbours that are key to the local economy. Fraserburgh, Peterhead and Aberdeen have over 11km of quayside combined.
Aberdeen is the largest berthage port in Scotland with 7700m of quayside. Peterhead has 3150m and Fraserburgh 170.
The need for quayside to accommodate the offshore energy sector together with other factors has led to a major investment in port infrastructure. In 2023 Aberdeen Harbour Board opened up the South Harbour increasing the posts capacity by 1,500meters. Fraserburgh Port Authority has plans for a major expansion increasing the length of quayside from 170m to 742m.
The east Grampian Coast also smaller harbours at Cairnbulg, Boddam, Port Errol, Colliestone, Cove, Stonehaven, Gordon and Johnshaven. With the exception of the outer harbour at Stonehaven these are all tidal and boats ground at low water.
